A very quick post on rice. It is one of the simplest things to cook and yet people really struggle with it! I am going to tell you the way to cook perfectly fluffy, basmati rice and it’s very, very easy.
Big thank you to my husband as he taught me this method. He did an Indian cooking course in London a few years ago and was taught it there and then of course passed it on to me.
So the method is simple, 1 part rice to 2 parts water. So, if you use 1 cup of rice you use 2 cups of water to cook it in. If you use 2 cups of rice then you use 4 cups of water to cook it in.
Measure the amount of rice you want, for ease let’s say 1 cup. Put the 1 cup of rice into a sieve and run cold water from the tap over the rice until the water runs clear.
Put the rice in a pot and add 2 parts of water (in this example 2 cups)
Add a pinch of salt to the pot.
Bring to the boil and as soon as it boils reduce to a simmer and put a lid over the pot.
Cook at a simmer for 10 minutes.
Remove from the heat and leave it with the lid on for 5 more minutes.
Drain if you need to.
Then, voila!
Perfect rice.
Couldn’t be easier hey?!
